MY SCHOOL LIFE

An Innocent Life - Schooling at S.D.A. English Medium School, Nedungadappally (1985-1990)

Most of us will have a lot to tell about those good old sunny days in school, huh !. In my 20 years of education from L.K.G. to M.C.A., school life remains as the most precious.

I did my primary education at Seventh Day Adventist English Medium School, Nedungadappally, which was the nearest school to my native place. S.D.A. was not a big school but it was a great place to learn from. I really miss my S.D.A. schoolmates. Jacob, Pradeep, Tharun, Sibi, Jens, Gins, Asha, Reena, Reny, Tessy, Sandhya, Raziya.....

Jacob you always smiles at me whenever you see me on road while driving your Black Scorpio. Why are you not coming for a chat. I still preserve the letters you send me in 1988 from Thripunithura where you always spend your vaccation.

Pradeep, you also doesn't slow down while riding your Kinetic Honda. You still remembering the 'dada' joke ??? Most of the days, Pradeep used to buy 'Nutrine Fruitroll' candies (I think, Nutrine stopped its production some years back!) for me while coming back from home after his lunch. Reader's dont think Pradeep was so affectionate to me, I used to pay for all those candies ;)

Tharun, you are the one whom I always want to meet. Everytime I pass through Nedungadapally, I will be looking at your Kayyalath house. Do you remember, the way we sung the song from Nadodikattu, for school day ?.

Sibi, you used to get beating from 'Mr. Muthu' (our Maths teacher) on alternative days, right ! . But unlike others, I have never seen you crying after the punishment.

Jens, you might have grown big now. You are the person whom I miss a lot. Infact we haven't seen each other after leaving S.D.A. You used to talk about Nagpur, where your father worked then. Da your home is at Ezhumattor, right ?

Gins, I still remember your grandfather. Still I can spot your house in Shanthipuram. Hmmmm not exactly, but I got a vague idea about that. Near a big curve, from which a mud road starts to your home..... am I right ? ;)

Asha, you must be looking beautiful now. I can't remember the location from where our school van picked you. Its somewhere near Mallappally, on the way to Kunnamthanam via Venkotta, right ?....

Reena, we were not able to maintain that old warmth in our relation while we studied in K.G. College, Pampady, right ?... Later, I used to know about your education from your brother Reji.

Reny, you still own that truck named 'Roney'. Roney is your brother, right ? Reny, Jens and Tharun were something special for me in my schooldays. I still remember the day your father came to school with breakfast, when you had a quarrel at home and left without having food.

Tessy have you learn't to speak loud. You were the class topper then. Your home is at Mallappally, right ? In U.S. Software, I have seen a girl with your resemblance. I were about to say hello to her, but found some other name in her Tag and suddenly I scooted :)

Michael Learns To Rock - High School Education at M.D. Seminary High School, Kottayam (1991-1996)

From 5th standard onwards, my education was at M.D. Seminary High School, Kottayam, where my mother worked as a teacher then. Kottayam is 21 kms far from my native place. Travelling 42 kms daily, was a challenge for me. My mother, brother and I used to go by either 'Kayamkulam Champakara' , 'Mercy Motors' or 'Athikkayam Maharaja'. Needless to say, I had to fight with the staff of all these buses. Will you believe, I used to travel to Kottayam, giving 40 paise as the bus fare!

Unlike S.D.A., M.D. Seminary was a big school. M.D. Seminary was the school of laymen and poor. Life at this school only taught me the virtues of life. Another honour I earned was, everyone considered me as 'son of our teacher/colleague'. I used to get that consideration from classroom to staffroom. Still many students of that time, identify me and Vimal as 'son of Mitzy Teacher'.

The nearness of 'Baselios College' had a huge impact on our school. Whenever a strike occurred in Baselios College, we will invite the SFI/KSU strikers to come to our school and end that days class. Soon teachers found our trick and they closed the gate that let us go inside Baselios College campus. I used to buy a lot of candies from the store in the backyard of Baselios College.

Some of the shops which were famous among M.D. Seminary boys include Chandran's Kada, Sabu's Bonda Kada, Ladies Corner, The Sales Corporation, Kada run by the handicapped people in front of Baselios College......Still all these shops are functioning.

A list of my friends from M.D. Seminary will be incomplete without the following names: Sumith Thomas Mammen, Paul Varghese, Anju Thomas George, Kuruvilla John, Jom J Mattathil, Tigi K Thomas, Dhanushkodi P., Vipin Raj, Ajeesh, Bimal Prakash, Milan Prince, Robin Jacob, Midhun V.P., Prince P.K., Joel Aruviparambil, Joby Thomas, Joby Varghese, Thomas Chandapillai, Ginu Kuriakose........and a lot more...........
